প্রাক্তন রাষ্ট্রপতি এপিজে আবদুল কালামের নাম অনুসারে ওই উপগ্রহটির নাম দেওয়া হয়েছিল ‘কালামস্যাট’। তামিলনাড়ুর পাল্লাপটি শহরের বাসিন্দা রিফথ শাহরুকের তৈরি ওই উপগ্রহটি রিইনফোর্সড কার্বন ফাইবার পলিমার দিয়ে তৈরি। ওজন মাত্র ৬৪ গ্রাম। আয়তনে ৩.৮ ঘন সেন্টিমিটার। হাতের মুঠোয় ধরা যায় উপগ্রহটি। পুরোপুরি ৩ডি প্রিন্টিং টেকনোলজির ব্যবহারে তৈরি উপগ্রহটিতে রয়েছে ক্ষুদ্র গিগার মুলার কাউন্টার যার সাহায্যে মহাজাগতিক বিকিরণ মাপা যায়। এর প্রধান কাজ ৩ডি প্রিন্টেড কার্বন ফাইবারের কর্মক্ষমতা বোঝা। ‘নাসা’ এবং ‘আই ডুডল লার্নিং’-এর আয়োজিত ‘কিউবস ইন স্পেস’ নামে একটি প্রতিযোগিতায় নজর কাড়ে শাহরুকের ওই উপগ্রহ। তারপরেই সেটি মহাকাশে পাঠানোর সিন্ধান্ত নেয় নাসা। উৎক্ষেপণের সাফল্যে অভিভূত কেশন জানিয়েছেন পুরো অভিযানটাই ‘স্বর্গীয়’।
তবে লাইমলাইটে একাই থাকতে রাজি নয় শাহরুক। এই উপগ্রহ তৈরিতে যারা তার সঙ্গে ছিল সাফল্যের আনন্দটা সে ভাগ করে নিতে চায় তার সেই গোটা দলের সঙ্গেই।
